Epidemiology (WP1)

Work package lead - Prof Nigel Arden

Epidemiology is the study of how often diseases happen in different groups of people and why.

Aims:

  1. To describe the epidemiology of sport, exercise and injury with osteoarthritis with emphasis on risk factors for developing symptomatic osteoarthritis
  2. To assess whether risk factors for developing symptomatic osteoarthritis differ between individual sports and/or level of athlete
(i.e. elite, youth academy, recreational, general population)
  3. To build a clinical predictive tool to identify high risk individuals using existant and novel groups of sports people
  4. To identify high risk groups for clinical intervention studies
